The two-piece construction of blade and shank is joined by five strong rivets, additionally secured with a 40 mm wide steel ferrule, and encloses the unbreakable ash handle up to half its length. This results in very good stability and the shovel offers high resistance to breakage and shock loads. It is also easy to resharpen under field conditions. One simple sharpening method, for example, is to lay both edges flat with the inside of the blade on a concrete block.
The sheath with two belt loops is made of moisture-resistant and rot-proof black nylon with a rigid plastic insert.
